Watermark Counselling

Watermark Counselling has been providing counselling in Howick since 1998. The counsellors, Moira Shorten and Wendy Ballard, have many years of experience working for community groups and agencies in the Counties Manukau area.

The counsellors are:

Moira Shorten, MA Cert. Counselling, P.Grad.Dip.Ed.(guidance), P.Grad.Dip.Child Mental Health, Cert. Supervision MNZAC, P.Grad.Dip. HealthSc. (Advanced Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy), ACC Registered, EAP.

Moira works with adults and children, covering a variety of issues from anxiety and grief to depression and sexual abuse. She enjoys working with teens and young persons who often benefit from talking with an adult who is interested in their issues but independent of family and school. She uses an integrated psychodynamic method with a focus on developmental and attachment areas and play materials with children.

Moira offers long or shorter term counselling depending on each client's needs and wishes. Workplace and clinical supervision is also available.

Deciding to try counselling can be a big step but a professional therapeutic relationship allows support, insight and change to occur at the client's pace.

Wendy Ballard, Dip Counselling, Cert Supervision, MNZAC

ACC registered counsellor.

Wendy Works with individual adults and couples, covering relationship and parenting difficulties, anxiety, grief, depression, sexual abuse, medical misadventure and other life issues; also workplace and clinical supervision.

She has worked with people in the Howick area for many years, in community groups and through counselling. Wendy believes that those who seek help during troubled periods of their lives can be enabled to find the strength and direction they need through sharing their concerns with a skilled counsellor.

Wendy uses a client-centred, psychodynamic approach in counselling, incorporating interventions such as drawing and sand-tray when applicable. She also facilitates parenting courses for the parents of young children.

She is registered to provide subsidised counsellingwith ACC for sexual abuse and medical misadventure. She also offers clinical and workplace supervision.
