Neighbourhood Trust (NHT) works mainly in the North St Albans/Mairehau/Shirley area of Christchurch. Its vision is to fulfill the needs of the community not being met by other organisations, bringing hope for the future and to build into the resources in the community.
NHT works mainly with the elderly, families and school children.
Most NHT activities run from St Albans Baptist Church on McFaddens Rd (between Cranford St and Rutland St)
Music and Action Group
Wednesdays during school term 9.30 - 10.30am $7 a session or $42 card of eight sessions.
Focus on relaxation and strengthening.
Tuesdays during school term 7.00pm - 8.00pm
Circuits include aerobic and strengthening exercises. The cost is $7 a session or $42 for an 8-session card.This is a community class, with a fun element. Give it a go if the gym isn't for you!
English As a Second Language - small classes with a qualified tutor on Tues and Thurs mornings.

Golden Connections Programme
A programme is aimed at older adults (over 60s) and runs every Wednesday. You can receive the programme by emailing [email protected] A mix of movies, meals, bus trips, hymn service, foot clinic, games afternoon.
Parts of the programme are by by gold coin koha e.g. meals and movies; foot clinic (foot spa, nail clip by nurse, massage) and bus trips which include an afternoon tea and activity are $15 (full-day trips are $30 as they include lunch).
The Mairehau monthly community newspaper
Monthly - home delivered in Mairehau and parts of Shirley. Also available from Papanui Library and Shirley Library.

Pay It Forward
A community development project, a retail shop for Canterbury crafts people selling quality hand-crafted goods, 2nd hand books, a free swap box for children's books, fruit and veg surplus.
Gorgeous items including jewellery, soy candles, original cushions, children's clothing, knitwear, leather goods, upcycled furniture, cake toppers and yummy fudge and herbal teas.
Also run craft classes for adults and children from time to time.
All profits go back into the community and help develop the project.
