AA - Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. Alcoholics Anonymous is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; and neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Their primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Meetings are held throughout New Zealand all year round, and details about these can be found on the website. Contact the National Freephone number to access local services in your area - it operates 24 hours and has an after-hours phone answer service with help phone numbers available.

Alcoholics Anonymous are a group that holds support meetings for recovering alcoholics (those of us who struggle to overcome the need for alcohol in life).

They meet regularly during the week, usually in the evenings from 7.30pm onwards. They meet in different places depending on who is running the meeting and where they've been able to organise them.

The meetings are run exactly the same each time i.e. on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. All newcomers are welcome.

Please ring the (0800) AA WORKS phone number and the volunteer manning the phone for that day will tell you where the meetings are being held and what time to come.

You are invited to enjoy a cup of tea and a chat afterward.

Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can,

And wisdom to know the difference.
