@Heart Inc (formerly Heart Children New Zealand)

@Heart Inc, formerly Heart Children New Zealand, is the only New Zealand charity providing support and services to families, children and adults impacted by congenital heart conditions or heart disease resulting from childhood illnesses such as rheumatic fever.  With a network of 18 branches and support groups throughout the country, they provide appropriate and timely practical, emotional and psycho-social support to heart kids, heart teens, heart adults and heart families. In 2014 they are celebrating their 30th anniversary.

The society aims to:

  • Reduce the suffering, stress and sense of isolation of these children and the emotional strain on their families
  • Reduce the financial burden and stress placed on families taking a child to Starship Children's Hospital
  • Encourage, develop and implement programmes that build hope, resilience confidence, and independence
  • Provide useful and timely information through their website ( and various publications. Their primary publication is the book "Heart Children: A Practical Handbook for Parents of Children with Heart Conditions," now in its sixth edition
  • Promote awareness of the cause.

If you are the parent of a child with a serious congenital heart condition or heart disease or an adult with congenital heart disease, please contact the @Heart National Family Support and Services Manager for practical advice and information.

Mission statement: @Heart provides lifelong support for all those affected by congenital heart defects, the world's most common birth defect, and heart disease acquired during childhood.
