Christchurch Migrants Centre Trust - Te Whare Ta Wahi

As a registered Charitable Trust, the Centre’s vision is for all new migrants to Otautahi to experience “Te Aroha ki te Takata” (The welcoming of strangers) that the Takata Whenua (indigenous Ngai Tahu Whanui) displayed to the first European migrants.

The vision is that the migrants’ settlement will be enhanced with services which assist migrants to feel valued, aware and involved in the city’s life  To also become full participants in the social, cultural and economic activity of Christchurch. The Centre partners and works with all like minded groups, agencies and authorities to achieve this vision.

The Centre provides:

  •  Settlement advice 
  •  Service co-ordination 
  •  Cultural support
  •  Information 
  •  Assistance
  •  Orientation.

Currently the Migrant Centre runs courses/programmes such as:

  • Strengthening Families - yoga classes, women's choir, walking group
  • Empowering Leaders
  • Empowering Associations
  • Christchurch Newcomers Network
  • Crafting sessions
  • English classes and other programmes aimed for helping newcomers build confidence in settling in.
