Belinda HodsonCounsellor (Adults, Couples, Adolescents) & Career Counsellor

Counselling:

As a qualified counsellor Belinda works with clients in a non-judgmental flexible way. She has learnt the importance of this from her own experience of going to counselling. Having worked with adolescents, adults, couples and the elderly her experience spans a wide range of life issues. Issues she frequently works with include:

  • Couples counselling
  • Relationships, and partner separation
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Loneliness
  • Workplace issues
  • Spirituality/religion
  • Life meaning/direction
  • Confidence/self image
  • Bullying and harassment
  • Discrimination
  • Dealing with illness (self or loved one)
  • Sexuality, adoption, pregnancy and termination
  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Dealing with change
  • Career counselling

Trained in a variety of mainstream counselling approaches including Client Centered Therapy (Rogers), Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT), Narrative, Te Weke, Gestalt and Art Therapy, Belinda will work ‘existentially’ with you. This places your values, beliefs, constraints and strengths at the centre of the work while she draws on one or more of these approaches to support you in uncovering solutions for your issues.

Career Counselling:

Belinda is also a careers counsellor with a background in government recruiting and can help you with:

  • Finding a career/hobby that’s right for you
  • CV development
  • Job interview training
  • Navigating social media
  • Job hunting skills

Belinda sees clients from the Wellington CBD, central and northern suburbs such as Johnsonville; and Porirua, Petone and Lower Hutt as she has access to counselling offices in these locations.

If you are on a low income or a benefit, funding may be available for your sessions. Belinda also has access to some funding for couples counselling.

"I understand that many people feel anxious or scared about 'opening up to a stranger' even though they are seeing a counsellor. This can be particularly true for men; or couples seeking counselling where the future of their most  significant relationship feels at stake. For this reason, I'm committed to  providing a safe place to express and explore thoughts and feelings, past and present. During our first and any subsequent sessions you may choose to undertake, I will be guided by you as to what feels comfortable to share. I will also check to ensure you feel I'm 'getting you'.

"If you aren't sure if counselling's right for you, OR whether I'm the right counsellor for you, please feel you can contact me to discuss."
