Alzheimers Society Eastern Bay of Plenty Incorporated

Alzheimers Eastern Bay of Plenty provide information and professional support to individuals and families whose lives are affected by dementia.

This includes assessment, planning and problem solving, linkage to health and community services and on going monitoring, including:


  • Promoting awareness of the needs of people with dementia, their care givers and families/whanau.


  • Facilitating new referrals and early intervention through information and increased community awareness.


  • Providing education and information courses for carers with funding for materials from the DHB


  • Providing education and training to rest homes, general practices, Maori, and other community groups who have direct involvement in care or referral of people with dementia.


  • Providing a volunteer programme to support and engage in activities, including singing, art, walking groups, coffee group and LadiesClub, with people with dementia and their family/whanau and caregivers, and to support the Society and its special programmes including:


  • Blokes sheds in Opotiki and Kawerau


  • A WandaTrak programme in conjunction with the Police and LanSAR, to quickly locate specified clients who may “wander” outside their own safe environment
